Caution
The front panel handles of the toggle switches are prone to damage by mishandling.
Please handle box with care.
Instructions

- Lock light – It will come
on when valid digital data is received. The Combo does not function
unless the Lock light is illuminated. No Lock light means there
is a problem in the incoming signal.
- Input selector – Opto for optical input. Line is reserved for either coaxial RCA or balanced
AES/EBU input. When Line is chosen, only a coaxial or balanced
input can be connected. The Combo would not function when both Line inputs are hooked up at the same time.
- LED – The LED will light
up when the Combo’s sampling frequency is set at 44.1kHz. A precision
“Red Book” 44.1Khz clock is generated at the output.
- LED – The LED will light
up when the Combo’s sampling frequency is set at 96kHz. An accurate
clock at 96KHz is generated at the output.
- Sampling – This selector sets
the sampling frequencies at 44.1kHz or 96kHz.
For D/A converters that cannot be operated at
the 96kHz sampling frequency, the Combo’s sampling frequency at 44.1kHz will
promote higher accuracy for the partnering D/A converter. As a result, better
sonic performance can be attained.
For 24/96 D/A converters, selecting the 96kHz sampling frequency will
result in better resolution. Conventional CDs will be up-sampled to the 96kHz
sampling frequency instead of 44.1kHz. This is especially beneficial in pulse
response.
(Please see
separate graph comparing pulse response between 48 and 96Khz. Improved
pulse response will enhance percussion music reproduction.)

Notes:
- Use either RCA or Balanced cable one at a time. DO NOT connect both at the same time.
- Both Opto and RCA (or Balanced) can be connected to the DSP at the same time. Use the Input selector on front panel for switching between Opto or RCA (or Balanced) input.

DIP Functions Explained
First, please note that the DIP Combo offers the following features in
both the Classic(44.1K) and Upsampled(96K) modes:
1: boosted signal strength(to 5 times higher) this mitigates the deficiency in many digital cables
2: signal conditioning(jitter reduction)
3: ground isolation(from hum and noise)
4: format change(from Opto to RCA; from Co-axial to Balanced, etc)
5: precision clocks (at 44.1 and 96Khz)
Then, please note that the precision clocks offer very important functions:
1: it allows the DAC to operate at higher accuracy. Hence better sound. (The incoming clock from the transport is actually discarded)
2: it allows the user to choose, sometimes by listening, to see which
sampling rate gives him better sound.
While Upsampling has many advantages(especially in the way of pulse response, please see attached to see the difference between 48 and 96K), often some recordings seem to sound better in its "Native" sampling rate(44.1K). The toggle switch on the front panel therefore becomes very important in offering the user an instant selection between the two formats. Users should have fun
determining which format gives him better sound on a given disc.
